We are Suzuki Jimny SJ Family

In my family, we have three Suzuki 4x4. My father's Suzuki SJ410 is mainly for daily use to the farm, my brother's SJ413 also for his daily use and mine is for use in the farm and light off-road purpose. All bought second hand. Why we use Suzuki 4x4? Definitely for its reliability, cheap and simple which serve our different purposes.

Suzuki Jimny Malaysia: A Reality?

This 4x4 small compact car does not need much introduction, but a legend and is mostly used by most 4x4 enthusiasts whether urban or rural areas as well as one of the options to modify the vehicle for 4x4 challenge, particularly in Sabah, Malaysia. News relevant to the new model Suzuki Jimny will be launched in Malaysia in fact has existed in the internet news over the past month. Readers can refer to Paul Tan, CBT and Keretamoto.  I'm a bit late to write a blog about this car.

I have a rather large gallery of pictures of similar kind vehicle with the previous version SJ410 and SJ413 here.  Interestingly, I have seen this car on display during the 4x4 challenge in Brunei in 2012. I have written my experience here in the hope that Suzuki JIMNY Malaysian version will be realized. However, after reading from the source mentioned above, the new Suzuki JIMNY is priced around RM90,000 for imported CBU from Japan. With this price, I do not expect that it will be sold on a large scale in Malaysia. I hope the actual price is not as described because the price offered in Brunei is around SGD25,000. If not, it would probably be like what had happened with the Perodua Nautica, although they have the target customers of Kembara owners and other 4x4 Kaki. Otherwise let those with lots of spare money to buy first then wait for several years until they decided to sell the 2nd-hand Jimny. Suzuki 4x4 fans may likely to buy Suzuki JIMNY locally or CKD models which the price offered is more affordable.

I was informed that the new Suzuki Jimny will be displayed on the DRB-HICOM Autofest in PISA (now SPICE) on 28-30 June 2013. I would definitely go there to find out whether the Suzuki Jimny is there.

Kebanyakan daripada kita menyebut nama model 4×4 kompak Suzuki Jimny dengan perkataan Jimmy, mungkin kerana ramai yang tidak menyangka perkataan yang betul adalah Jimny kerana sebutannya yang agak kekok berbanding perkataan Jimmy.

Di pasaran UK, Suzuki telah mengumumkan naik taraf terbaru (facelift model) untuk Suzuki Jimny bagi model tahun 2013, antaranya melibatkan rekaan baru bampar dan jeriji depan, bentuk baru bonet yang menggabungkan ‘intake’ udara tengah serta susunan semula lampu kabus depan. 

Bagi menggerakkannya, Suzuki Jimny dijana enjin petrol bersesaran 1.3 liter 16 valve binaan aloi sepenuhnya yang mendapat manfaat daripada sistem pemasaan injap berbilang, memastikan prestasi kuasanya sentiasa hidup, kuat dan ekonomi.

Dua transmisi tersedia sama ada manual lima kelajuan atau automatik empat kelajuan untuk enjin berkenaan yang menghasilkan kuasa setinggi 85ps dan 110Nm tork maksimum. Setakat ini kira-kira 20,000 orang rakyat UK telah memiliki Jimny.

And the answer was the plan to bring Jimny to Malaysia is in the pipeline. However, until now there is no outcome at the end of the pipeline. Clogged pipeline perhaps.

Targeted at those who are looking for a fun and easy to drive SUV buyers,t he Jimny surely has all you would be expecting. In fact, this car looks good and surely is unique. This essentially is a no-nonsense and nothing sophisticated 4WD that gets you what you need. Period. It does not come with those sophisticated system or high-tech handling stuff that you usually see in most SUVs. In fact, this car is basic enough and yet gives you that extra something.

It sits 4 passengers comfortably and comes with standard power windows and air-conditioning with reasonable cargo space and such. Comes with the 1.3 liter VVT 4 cylinder engine which gets you up to 63kW and a 110Nm of maximum torque. The engine is paired with either a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic transmission gearbox. Controlling the car is easy and is at arm’s length with a button to activate its all-wheel drive system whenever you need to.

You get a 3 spoke steering wheel with a 2 speaker CD player. Typically, as mentioned this car sits 4 people comfortably although it’s a bit cramped up behind. Surely if you have seen the previous Jimny you will like its new design. Gone are the boxy designs on the body and in comes the more modern persona with nice curves around the car. It still looks similarly small with the 2 door standard being maintained. Otherwise, you would also appreciate its ‘outdoor’ ruggedness which seemed to be quite a nice touch.

Somehow, the Jimny seemed to have it all. A contemporary look with the off-road motifs. Integrate the two and you get an outdoor personality which is so often missing in recent models. You cannot help but compare this with the Land Rover and such and then you might also turn your focus on the Rav4 as well. It seemed a bit confusing but one thing for sure, it is on the better side of things.
